This September, Evan Rogister makes his highly-anticipated debut at the Royal Danish Opera, leading George Benjamin’s acclaimed Written On Skin. The new production marks the Danish debut of this modern masterpiece, a “brutal and ravishing score” that will “eat your heart out” (NPR). Based on a medieval myth, Written on Skin tells the story of a 13th-century love triangle that spirals into betrayal and tragedy.

Rogister has made his mark on the contemporary music scene, conducting high-profile works like Terrance Blanchard’s Fire Shut Up in My Bones, and the album Follow, Poet, which features new works by composer Mohammed Fairouz.

Rogister leads an excellent cast, directed by Katie Mitchell, including Daniel Okulitch as Protector, Gisela Stille as Agnés, Morten Grove Frandsen as First Angel/Boy, Mathilda Sidén Silfver as Second Angel/Marie, and Jacob Skov Andersen as Third Angel/John.

Written on Skin runs September 14–October 4, 2025.
